Refloating attempts failed - ship is being lightered

Mon Jul 22 12:58:53 CEST 2019 Timsen

After attempts to pull the "Felix" off the grounding site south of Baagø, where it got stuck in the early morning of July 20, have so far been in vain, it was decided to ligher part of the cargo before it is salvaged. The "Obelix" several times during the last 24 hours had tried to pull the ship off. in the evening the "Jesper Saj", "Susanne Saj" and "Marie Miljoe" joined the "Obelix" at the grounding site. In the evening the cargo m/v "Alba Rousing" (IMO: 8506024), which had sailed from Aarhus at 11.50 a.m., went alongside to receive the cargo with assistance of the dredger "Jesper Saj" (MMSI: 219017321). In the evening of July 23, also the "DBB Idefix" (MMSI: 219025527) arrived at the grounding site.On July 23 at 7.45 p.m. the vessel could finally be freed and was safely berthed at the North Quay in Kolding on July 24 at 1.55 a.m. Once the salvage was completed, the vessel had to go through a thorough diving survey in the port. It left the port of Kolding again on July 26 at 11.10 a.m. was headed to Immingham with an ETA as of July 29, 10 p.m. On its way the vessel moored off Skagen in pos. 57° 41.83' N 010° 35.80' E on July 27 at 6.55 p.m. Danish report with photos: https://www.fyens.dk/article_gallery/3368133

Grounding off Assens

Sun Jul 21 11:26:48 CEST 2019 Timsen

The "Felix" ran aground on July 20, 2019, at 5 a.m. at Bogø Flak near Assens in pos. 55° 16.82' N 009° 49.98' E, while enroute from Pärnu to Kolding with a cargo of pellets. It got stuck south of the small island of Baagø in the Lillebælt. Investigations showed that there was no visible damage to the ship and that there were no signs of pollution either. The Danish Armed Forces have therefore approved a salvage plan which implied that the tug "Obelix" (IMO: 9691448) of the Dansk Bjergning og Bugsering, pulled the ship from the bottom. After a thorough survey it would then be allowed to proceed to Koldinng. Three attempts to refloat the vessel by the "Obelix" in the evening failed. If it does not succeed to pull the "Felix" off at high tide, it may be necessary to lighten a part of the cargo to reduce the draught of 6.5 meters.
