Medevac in Indian Ocean
A Turkish naval frigate responded to an emergency call from the "Aeagean Angel" in the Indian Ocean late on Sep 7, 2017. The Turkish frigate TCG "Giresun" was alerted to medevac Vazoios Marcos, a wounded Greek crew member at 1:46 p.m., who had lost one of his fingers and was in a critical condition. Immediately tasked by CTF 151, the TCG "Giresun" sent a medical team by her SH-70 Seahawk helicopter to render assistance. Once the helicopter arrived, the injured sailor was hoisted aboard the Seahawk and the doctor of the medical team carefully examined and provided immediate medical treatment. The individual was subsequently moved to the "Giresun". Upon coordination with the Omani authorities, TCG Giresun proceeded with best speed to Salalah Harbour where a medical team received the injured sailor and took him to hospital where he underwent surgery. After the surgery, crew members from the "Giresun" visited the patient with wishes for a speedy recovery. Medevac from Aegean Angel
The 23-year-old Greek 3rd engineer of the "Aegean Angel” was injured on Nov 21, 2011, inside the ship, which was underway from Mexico to Spain. The vessel dropped anchor at the Bahamas Harbor in order to medevac the injured man who was immediately transported to a local hospital. The ship continued its journey afterwards. The Piraeus Central Port Authority was to conduct a preliminary examination to determine the exact cause of the accident.
