One killed and three injured in explosion

Mon Mar 28 20:51:09 CEST 2022 Timsen

The 'Ampar 8' exploded and caught fire on the Chao Praya River, near the Samut Prakan province, in the afternoon of March 27, 2022. The vessel had arrived from Koh Si Chang Anchorage with approximately 3.000 tons of crude oil. One of the crew members jumped over board and died, three were injured, and 14 others were rescued unscathed. The tanker drifted downstream for about three miles and finally managed to drop anchor. Firefighting boats from the navy and the disaster prevention and mitigation office of Samut Prakan were dispatched to the scene and managed to put out the fire whithin about an hour. An investigation was underway to determine the cause of the explosion.
