Fog collision on the Lek

Sat Nov 19 12:29:37 CET 2011 Timsen

in the evening of Nov 18, 2011, the "Maasstroom 9", 45 ts (EU-No.: 2309894) was in collision with the Dutch flagged, 812-TEU-inland container barge "Hanzestad", 1702 ts (EU-No.: 2324806), loaded with cellulose on the Lek near Ledderkerk. At the time of the collision there was dense fog, with visibility of less than 200 meters. Both ships were significantly damaged. The tug suffered a hole in the bow and water ingress, while the deck, radar and a crane on deck of the barge were damaged.
