Freighter refloated off Chioggia

Sat Jul 27 21:18:20 CEST 2019 Timsen

During the night of July 26/27, three tugs managed to free the "Amira Joy" at the entrance to the port of Chioggia. After the first success in refloating the freighter, it got stuck again at a short distance from the initial grounding position, ending with the stern on the north side of the Chioggia approach channel. The ship was finally moored at the anchorage and waiting for permission to enter the port by the Port Authority of Chioggia. The ship was expected to enter the port after the checks of the Captaincy have been completed. In the coming days the crew of 15 was to be interrogated. The "Amira Joy" left the port again after repairs on Sep 14 at 2.30 p.m. and headed to Chornomorsk with an ETA as of Sep 20.

Grounding off Chioggia

Fri Jul 26 09:56:35 CEST 2019 Timsen

The "Amira Joy" with a crew of 15 on board ran aground while entering the port of Chioggia off the Vigo basin in the afternoon of July 25, 2019, after veering off the fairway when the towing wire of the bow tug broke. Attempts to refloat the ship with assistance of three port tugs of Pafido initially failed. The ship got stuck n sandy bottom southwest of Forte San Felice in pos. 45° 13.68' N 012° 17.04' E. The salvage work was called off when the water level dropped and was to be continued with more suitable conditions on July 26. The ship had sailed from Canakkale on July 20 with cargo of clam shells. It did not pose a threat to navigation nor environment.
