Tanker leaked cocos oil in Vlaardingen

Fri Mar 21 10:35:20 CET 2025 Timsen

The 'Amici' leaked cocos oil in Vlaardingen on the afternoon of March 20, 2025. The ship came from Amsterdam, past Nieuwegein amd was saoöomg towards Vlaardingen., when it attracted the attention of the Seaport Police because it was very low in the water. Parts of the deck, which are used as a walkway, were flooded. Due to the low position, part of the cargo, edible oils, ended up in the water. The crew of the inland tanker was taken off at the Maas Boulevard. Emergency services rushed to the site, including two boats from the Port of Rotterdam. The fire brigade started pumping the water out. It was not yet known how much water has entered the tanker. The company Hebo has installed oil booms, using the work ship 'Hebo Cat 9'.. The port tugs 'RPA 11' and 'RPA 13' started spraying water onto the oil. The ship was later taken to a shipyard in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht. According to the Port Authority, edible oils, such as coconut oil, are easy to clean up.
