Water ingress on the Elbe
During maintenance work on the Elbe at the Bubendey shore, the "Amazone" suffered a technical malfunction on Dec 11, 2014, around 11 a.m. The starboard propeller shaft and package were damaged, and as a consequence the dredger suffered water ingress in the engine room. As the ship's own pumps were unable to cope with the flooding, the Norderyard in Hamburg offered assistance, and the manager steel & repair, Klaus Peter Nitz, organized a berth and additional dewatering pumps at the Norderwerft Repair GmgH at the Ellerholzdamm. The dock was prepared for an emergency docking, and alread 75 minutes after the "Amazone" had berthed at 1 p.m., she could be drydocked so that no danger of pollution arose while pumping out the oil-water mixture from the engine room before starting the repairs at the propulsion.
