New river cruiseship 'AmaPrima' christened in Vilshofen
The 164-passenger vessel debuted on Tuesday in a dockside christening ceremony in Vilshofen, Germany that included a performance by soprano Heidlinde Schmid and an Indiana Jones-like whip-cracking demonstration (a local Bavarian tradition), USA Today reports. The founder and head of one of the USA's largest privately owned travel agencies, Valerie Wilson of Valerie Wilson Travel, served as godmother for the vessel, breaking a bottle of champagne against its hull. AmaPrima is a sister ship to AmaWaterways' one-year-old AmaCerto and features cabins with balconies that measure up to 350 square feet. The ship also has a heated pool with swim-up bar (a relative rarity on river ships in Europe) as well as a massage and beauty salon, fitness studio and complimentary in-room WiFi. The AmaPrima will sail a range of itineraries on Dutch and Belgium Waterways and the Danube and Rhine Rivers.
