In a distress call the speech was of 4 pirates, and the crew of 27 went into the citadel. Naval vessels were sent. While the crew was waiting for help, the pirates tried to break into the Citadel but were unsuccessful. A European Warship arrived on the scene Jan 29 morning and sent a boarding team to the Tanker. Once on board they carried out a search and found no signs of pirates and then freed the crew from the citadel. None of the crew were injured during the attack or boarding and damage to vessel and equipment limited. The tanker was enroute from Rabigh to Singapore with 55,000 Tons of naptha. Porbably the pirates were unable to break into the citadel, fled and rejoined their PAG consisting of 2 skiffs and a dhow which were later seen on position 11 19' 0" N, 063 37' 0" E, 533 nm NW of Kavaratti Island on bearing 275.7.
