Bulk carrier boarded by armed perpetrator

Mon Dec 16 11:33:09 CET 2024 Timsen

On the morning of Dec 14, 2024, the 'Ocean Pride', en route from Panjang to Kos, became the target of an attempted piracy attack by an unidentified group as it passed through Panjang water. At 02:00 a.m. LT, the ship had completed its coal loading operations at PT. Bukit Asam’s Terminal and proceeded to anchor in the designated anchorage area. However, at approximately 04:00 a.m. four unidentified individuals attempted to board the ship by climbing the main deck railing. The crew detected the intruders and immediately acted to repel them. When their actions were thwarted, the perpetrators brandished sharp weapons, such as machetes or large knives, leading to a tense confrontation with the crew. In the ensuing struggle, the intruders jumped into the sea and retreated to their boat. Before leaving, they threatened the crew, stating they would return to attack the vessel. Responding to the report from the crew, who expressed concern over the threat, the Head of KSOP Class I Panjang ordered immediate measures to secure the situation. Personnel aboard the 'P.5211' were deployed to the location to safeguard the 'Ocean Pride'. This action was taken as a precaution and to provide security assurance to the ship’s crew. The authorities continued to monitor the situation and coordinate to ensure the 'Ocean Pride' can resume its voyage safely.
