Ship allowed to sail again
After the collision of the "Renate" with the barge "Coburg", 1724 ts (EU-No.: 04503710), on the Main-Danube-Canal inside the Gornsdorf lock in the Kelheim municipality on June 28, all passengers were taken off the "Renate" by 5 p.m. and transferred back to Kelheim with coaches. Eight divers surveyed the damage at the stern, and at 5 p.m. the ship carried out a trial without problems. It was allowed to return to the Donau pier, where clean up works were carried out. On June 29 a decision was expected whether the ship would be sent to a repair yard in Linz immediately or continue its sailings with the damage at the stern. 23 injured in allision
On June 28, 2015, the "Renate" was hit by the barge "Coburg", 1724 ts (EU-No.: 04503710), on the Main-Danube-Canal inside the Gornsdorf lock in the Kelheim municipality. 23 persons were injured, seven taken to the Goldberg hospital in Kelheim for further treatment. Among them was one seriously injured. On the whole 291 passengers were aboard when at 12.46 a.m. the "Coburg“ ran into the stern of the "Renate" after the lock gates were opened, as the passenger ship was still berthed. The "Coburg" which had 950 tons fertilizer on board was not damaged. Both ships were underway towards Riedenburg. In the allision the stern platform of the "Renate" was smashed, and passengers fell on all three decks. The rescue service was on scene with 45 forces, the fire rescue Kelheim-City attended with 30 men. The water police Regensburg und and officers of the Kelheim police started investigations. The remaining passengers were taken home with coaches. Eight divers of the fire rescue surveyed the hull and steering gear of the "Renate" which possible had suffered damage too. They found dents and small breaches. The ship was no longer permitted to sail.
