Mersa 2 refloated and taken to Livorno
The "Mersa 2" was pulled off the reef at Elba and pulled to the port of Livorno by the tug "Tito Nero" on June 2. Before, the fuel was pumped aboard the barge "Jerzy di Labromare" if the Castalia Consortium as a precaution. Tere was little risk of a fuel spill as the tanks were situated in the stern section. The ship had suffered a hole on the starboard bow caused by the impact.
Hull breached in grounding
In the grounding in the of June 1, 2012, at 4.50 a.m. on the island off Elba in Sant'Andrea near Marciana, the "MErsa 2" suffered a breach of 3-4 metres length which did not affect the stability. No injuries among the twelve crew members and no marine pollution reported. The ship was carrying a cargo of 2,970 tons. The Coast Guard Portoferraio dispatched two patrol boats and a helicopter.
