22 coronavirus infected sailors recovering
The 22 crew members of the 'Alicia' who were confirmed as positive with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, which returned to Cuba from Mexico on June 4, remained with stable clinical evolution at the Mario Muñoz Monroy Military Hospital in Matanza Bay. Four patients currently showed mild respiratory symptoms and were receiving antibiotics in minimal doses. One of the patients, 58 years old, debuted with diabetes mellitus and remained compensated with the corresponding medication. First the sailors manifested themselves with a compromised emotional state, they showed signs of anxiety and concern, but the work carried out by psychology and psychiatry specialists to restore calm and confidence helped a lot. At the clinic the biosecurity measures were exceeded and the protocols established for this type of situation were followed. The remaining seven crew members who yielded negative results in SARS- CoV-2, were in an isolation center located in the municipality of Unión de Reyes, . They will be tested again seven days later, due to the high risk of contagion they presented. Currently none present symptoms of the pandemic .
Coronavirus infected crew recovering well
22 Cuban crew members confirmed with Covid-19 recovered favourably, none had ccomplications, and it was hoped that they recovered soon at the Mario Muñoz hospital in Matanzas. The tanker had arrived at the port of Matanzas from Mexico. Since June 2, 2020, the case of the Covid-19 suspects was known on the island, so precautions were taken to help them upon their arrival in the bay. On June 4 at 11 a.m. the pilot approached the ship at the entrance to the bay and boarded with a sanitary suit and three pairs of gloves, staying almost four hours like this. Once on deck, the captain of the boat, also sick with Covid-19, provided him with a portable communication kit to direct the tugs. After disembarking, the crew were transferred to the Mario Muñoz Monroy hospital isolation center, attended by the health authorities, including colleagues from the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK), for testings.
