Ailing crewman rescued from canadian coast guard ship
A crewman from a coast guard ship off Newfoundland is in a St. John's hospital after complaining of chest pains and being hoisted from the deck by a search-and-rescue helicopter. The research vessel Alfred Needler, based in Halifax, was about 370 kilometres from St. John's when the man became ill. The Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax says a Hercules aircraft from Greenwood, N.S., and a Cormorant helicopter from Gander, N.L., were dispatched at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday. The 53-year-old crewman was reported to be in stable condition at the Health Sciences Centre.
