Steamer grounded off Flensburg
In the afternoon Sep 9, 2017, the "Alexandra" ran aground on the Flensburg Fjord enroute to the Ox Islands. The ship got stuck between the two islands and the port of Sönderhav at 5.30 p.m. The crew was unable to refloat the ship which was attended by the lifboat "Nis Randers" which was by chance in Flensburg port. Jointly with the daughter boat "Onkel Willi" she could pull the steamer from the shallow around 7 p.m. the "Alexandra" was then escorted back to Flensburg where divers had to survey the hull. It looked like the ship sustained no major damage, crew and passengers also had remained unhurt. The water police launched an investigation. Water ingress during trial
After an overhaul at the Gebr. Friedrich Yard in Kiel, during which 30 qm hull plating were exchanged, the "Alexandra", 140 gt, suffered water ingress during a trial on May 4, 2016, in the watertight forepeak. After the joists and floor plates that stabilize the ship in the longitudinal direction were exchanged on the shipyard probably a pressure shift had caused stress on the ship's hull." In addition, holes were apparently overlooked despite a cleaning under high pressure of 250 bar. The ship has now to be repaired in the dock of the Lindenau Yard in Kiel vom May 10 to 24. All scheduled sailings had to be called off.
