Schooner in distress near Helsinki
In the afternoon of Sep 6, 2018, the "Alexandra" suffered water ingress near Helsinki as she passed the Kungs Sound between Sandhamn and Skanslandet. The crew of four people immediately requested assistance, and units from the Sveaborg Maritime Guard station, the Helsinki police station and the rescue service in Helsinki attended. The rescue units were in place within minutes. The ship's crew had managed to steer the vessel into shallower waters on the west coast of Sandhamn, where the ship grounded. The rescue units managed to stabilize the situation and grefloat the schooner after which it was towed to the port at Skatudden for repairs. Several pumps were used to remove all water. The leak has not yet been located, but seemed to have been caused bya technical error. The "Alexandra" had started from Varpet in Vålax in Borgå in the morning.
