On Mar 14, 2016, at 4:38 a.m. the "Alexander von Humboldt" suffered engine failure on the Elbe sailing downstream from the Köhlbrand towards the fishing port. The dredger allided with the midddle quay, damaging the roof of a building with offices of the Kotug company on the quay on a length of 10 meters before backing out of the fishing port again. It was escorted by tugs to the Kronprinzen Quay. The bow suffered significant damage, as did the quay in the fishing port and the building.
