30 anglers evacuated off Hirtshals
On July 17, 2015, at 6.30 p.m., thick smoke arose from the engine room on the "Albatros 1" off Hirtshals 20 minutes into the end of the four-hour-trip. A fuel pipe had burst, and fuel splashed onto the exhaust pipe. The Danish MRCC quickly sent the lifeboat from Hirtshals to the ship. The angler vessel "Ostsee Star" assisted too. The 30 anglers aboard the "Albatros 1", some of whom were panicking, were transferred aboard and taken to Hirtshals. The crew of two remained on board and brought the situation under control, while their ship was taken in tow to Hirtshals by a lifeboat. At the port of Hirtshals an ambulance and doctors were ready when the anglers came ashore. The fire rescue was attending too at the Tvær Pier in case that the fire would flare up again. Already on July 15 a small fire had broken out in the rear engine when some fire-retardant insulation around the exhaust pipe suddenly melted, resulting in embers and heavy smoke.
