Poland Gets First Commercial LNG Cargo as New Supply Route Open
Poland received its first commercial liquefied natural gas, a milestone in the eastern European’s strategy to eliminate its dependence on Russian supplies. The Al Nuaman tanker docked at the Swinoujscie terminal on Friday, with 210,000 cubic meters of the chilled fuel, which will be unloaded within 24 hours and pumped into the transmission grid, state-owned pipeline operator Gaz-System SA said in an e-mailed statement. On Saturday, the facility on the Baltic Sea will be officially named after late President Lech Kaczynski, during whose term the project was initiated in 2006. “The terminal is one of the most important elements of building Poland’s energy independence and diversification of gas supplies,” said Tomasz Pietrasienski, a spokesman for Gaz-System. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-06-17/poland-gets-first-commercial-lng-cargo-as-new-supply-route-open
Second delivery of LNG for Świnoujście terminal
On February 8, 2016 Al Nuaman ship arrived with the second cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the commissioning of the LNG terminal in Świnoujście, says Polskie LNG. The ship delivered 210 thousand cubic meters of liquefied natural gas, which is equivalent to approx. 130 million cubic meters of gaseous fuel. It will be used for further commissioning and tests of installation. Unloading operation will take 3 days. The fuel is supplied by Qatargas Operating Company Limited. Polish Oil and Gas Company acts as intermediary in the delivery process under the contract with Polskie LNG SA - the recipient of gas assigned for commissioning of the installation. After regasification process, gas will be injected in the national transmission system and distributed to end-users in Poland.
Poland gets first time LNG gas by ship, diversifies energy sources
Poland has received its first delivery of liquefied natural gas, or LNG, from Qatar as it tries to diversify its energy sources and cut the price of imports from Russia. The giant LNG ship Al Nuaman, which carries some 200,000 cubic meters of liquefied gas, arrived in the port of Swinoujscie on Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, after 21 days of travel from Qatar. Poland, which currently depends on Russia for about 60 percent of its natural gas, has signed a 20-year contract with Qatar for LNG deliveries. It has been seeking new suppliers ever since Russia cut deliveries to Ukraine, which is a transit country for gas flowing to Europe, in a pricing dispute. http://www.sltrib.com/home/3296188-155/poland-gets-gas-by-ship-diversifies
