Russian engineer found dead on ship
Sergy Milyakov (51), the Russian chief engineer of the 'Al Danah' was found dead on board the ship at Paradip port’s anchorage on Jan 20 2023. His death comes two weeks after the back-to-back deaths of the Russian national Vladimir Bydanov and his friend, the Russian lawmaker and Putin critic Pavel Antov, at a hotel in Odisha’s Rayagada district. The Mumbai-bound ship came from Chittagong, Bangladesh, to load a cargo of iron ore at Paradip port, in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur. He might have died of a heart attack In Odisha, there has been criticism of the shoddy investigation into the death of Russian lawmaker Pavel Antov. This has led to the role of the Odisha Police being scrutinized again. On JAn 2, the crime branch said that Antov's postmortem process was neither video graphed nor photographed. The Odisha crime branch, which has been probing the deaths of Pavel and Bydanov, may be entrusted with the investigation of Milyakov’s death as well.
Collision in the port of Leixões
On Jan 16, 2017, the "Erasmos" was in collision with the oil tanker "Blue Emerald" at the port of Leixões. The accident forced the closure of an oil terminal and the activation of the emergency plan. The Maritime Police opened an investigation into the cause of the incident, which caused a loss of millions of Euros and left the terminal dock with significant damage. The "Erasmos", carrying a cargo of grain from Santander, had notified the port of Leixões of its arrival, but a steering failure caused it to sail towards the oil terminal and collide with the "Blue Emerald" which was moored there. The collision caused serious damage to the deck area at the aft of the tanker. The impact also caused damage to a structure of the terminal and therefore the emergency plan was triggered. There were no casualties and the collision did not result in any spillage due to the automatic ship release system with which the Galp equipped all its cargo arms. The damage to the terminal (Posto B) was still being evaluated by experts, and operations should resume start of next week. By Jan 26, both ships were moored on the port's anchorage.
