Sailors of hijacked tanker on their way home

Wed May 02 11:25:36 CEST 2012 Timsen

The seven Indian crew members onboard the "Enrico Ievoli" arrived in Mumbai on May 1. Their ship had been released last week after the ransom amount was handed over to the captors. The tanker’s crew of 18 — including six Italian, five Ukranian and seven Indians — was released on April 25. The seven Indians finally arrived at Mumbai’s international airport at 6 a.m. on May 1 and were felicitated by officials of the Directorate-General of Shipping and members of the seafarers’ unions. Of the seven, four were from Gujarat, two from Mangalore and one from Maharashtra.

The "Enrico Ievoli" was released by its Somalian hijackers. Also the crew of 18, six from Italy, seven from India and five Ukrainians, were free on Apr 23, 2012. The ship had on board 16.000 tons caustic soda. The ship meanwhile left Somalian waters escorted by Italian soldiers to a safe port and will later resume its voyage to Italy. The captain said everyone aboard was fine and the situation under control.

Italy PM asks Somali PM's help in freeing ship

Wed Feb 01 15:53:09 CET 2012 arnekiel

Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti on Wednesday asked his Somali counterpart Abdiweli Mohamed Ali for help in freeing an Italian ship hijacked by pirates in December with 18 crew members on board. Monti asked Ali at a meeting in Rome "to do everything in his power" to liberate the Enrico Ievoli cargo ship, which has six Italians, five Ukrainians and seven Indians on board, the government said in a statement. Ali assured Monti "of his personal engagement in aiding the liberation of the Italian ship and its crew, underscoring his government's strong commitment to preventing the scourge of piracy," the statement said. http://www.news24.com/Africa/News/Italy-asks-Somali-PMs-help-in-freeing-ship-20120201
