Cargo ship runs aground in Delaware River near Riverton, no serious damage
A cargo ship ran aground Tuesday, April 14, 2015 in the Delaware River near Riverton, N.J., the Coast Guard said. The Nord Explorer, a 32,000-ton bulk carrier registered in Panama, was southbound in the river when it got stuck about 4 a.m., the Coast Guard said. It broke free about three hours later. The Coast Guard said it was seeking to determine why the ship, which was heading to Norfolk, Va., ran aground. No injuries were reported and the ship suffered no serious damage, officials said. The Nord Explorer is the second ship to run aground in the waters of Burlington County this month. On April 1, another bulk carrier, the Liberian-registered Agia Irini, got stuck for a time near the promenade in Burlington City after losing propulsion. It refloated without incident.
