RV "Akademik Treshnikov" starts its maiden Arctic voyage
The research vessel "Akademik Treshnikov" owned by the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (Roshydromet) set sail from Arkhangelsk on July 28, 2014 on her first Arctic voyage, the service Northern department said. In Arkhangelsk, the expedition team consisting of specialists from Roshydromet's Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute (AARI), Granberg Research Institute for Geology and Mineral Resources of the World Ocean, the RAC's Institute of Geography, as well as helicopter reconnaissance crew from Avialift Vladivostok came aboard adopted expedition. The Arctic mission is aimed at obtaining new data on hydrometeorological and ice conditions in the Kara, Laptev and Chukchi seas, necessary for the safety of maritime activities on the Arctic shelf. The voyage is said to take 82 days and the vessel is scheduled to return to St. Petersburg on 10 October. The RV Akademik Treshnikov called at the port of Kiel (July 19-21), Germany and then will sail to the marginal seas of the Russian Arctic from Novaya Zemlya to Wrangel Island
Ran aground in Montevideo
Russian research vessel Akademik Tryoshnikov ran aground in Montevideo on Jan 23 13, presumably when moving from one berth to another with pilot on board. Admiralty Shipyards starts sea trials of R/V Akademik Treshnikov
Admiralty Shipyards has commenced the factory sea trials of the research and expedition vessel Akademik Treshnikov, the shipbuilding company said. The 11-day trials will be conducted in the Gulf of Finland near the island of Hogland. The R/V Akademik Treshnikov delivery is scheduled for August 2012. The commissioning team consisting of different 160 specialists will test the ship’s main engine, steering gear, auxiliary machinery, communications, navigation and anchoring equipment. Also the team will test speed performance, maneuverability and vibration testing of the ship. The vessel will undergo a day operation in automatic mode (the ship's power plant will be operating without the crew in the engine room). The RV Academic Treshnikov is a scientific and expedition vessel built for the Federal Service for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring of Russia (Roshydromet). The new flagship of the scientific and survey fleet is to replace the RV Akademik Fyodorov and is intended to support the activities of the Russian Antarctic Expedition
