Repair in Ceuta to be completed this week

Mon Aug 27 12:00:59 CEST 2018 Timsen

The repair of the "Manisa Camilla" in Ceuta went ahead during the recent days. The ship had suffered a large hole in the hull, and the bow bulb also had suffered minor damage that will be repaired when the ship goes into dry dock in a matter of six months. The naval repairs company of Los Barrios was hired by the shipowner company to carry out the repairs. The damaged steel plates were removed and stored aboard the ship. Then the interior structure with the frames have been reconstructed. The last step was to weld the new steel plates onto the hull. The Maritime Captaincy anticipated that the repair work would be completed this week and the ship, loaded with cement, may continue its voyage to Denmark, where it will deliver the cargo. The repair was completed on Aug 28. The ship left the port at 7 p.m. and headed to Aarhus, ETA Sep 5. Allision in Ceuta

Tue Aug 14 19:12:05 CEST 2018 Timsen

On Aug 14, 2018, around 11.30 a.m. the "Manisa Camilla" allided with the heliport pier while docking at the Alfau wharf in Ceuta with the assistance of two tugs. Concrete of the pier broke out, and the ship suffered a breach in the portside bow above waterline. The vessel had arrived at Ceuta from Sevilla. The accident was caused by an engine failure of one of the tugs so the "Manisa Camilla" got out of control. Strong wind was thought to have contributed to the accident.
