Dredger sank fishing boat
The "Karissa" was in collision with the "Highlander", a small sports fishing boat, on Oct 20, 2018, at 12.40 p.m. in position 050 38 11.4 N, 000 54 48.0 W, approximately 2,7 miles southeast of the Nab Tower, east of the Isle of Wight. One person on board the fishing vessel was rescued. The dredger was contacted, and their version of the incident has been noted. It was planned to notify all relevant officers regarding the incident.
Fire during conversion work
The "Karissa" caught fire on May 27, 2016, at the Ocean Quay in Norham, Southampton, where the vessel was undergoing a conversion into a dredger since already nine months. More than 30 firefighters were called to the Ocean Quay, Belvidere Road, at 1.38 p.m. Crews using two breathing apparatus and a water jet were tackling the blaze. Initially seven fire engines rushed to the scene due to the size of the ship. They included crews from St Mary’s, Redbridge, Eastleigh, Gosport and Cosham, plus an environmental protection unit from Romsey fire station. Four crews remained to continue fighting the flames. It was believed that the scaffolding erected inside the vessel was ignited by welding sparks.
