Ferry grounded off Igoumenitsa
The 'Agia Theodora', carrying 550 passengers and 16 crew members ran aground on Oct 28, 2024, at 7 p.m., four nautical miles northwest of the port of Igoumenitsa. The ferry got stuck in shallow waters, posing no threat to passenger safety. A coast guard vessel and a tourist boat were on the scene, with three tugboats and additional support en route. Weather conditions were calm. The ship refloated with own engines and proceeded to port. accompanied by two tugs, three coast guard boats and a passenger ferry. Passenger died on board
The Paxos Port Station was informed on Aug 4, 2023, at midday, that during the departure process of the 'Agia Theodora' from the port of Gaios to the port of Igoumenitsa, a 61-year-old local passenger needed immediate hospital care. Resuscitation attempts were made by a doctor using CPR without result. He was then transported by ambulance to the Paxos Health Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Port Authority of Paxos, which conducts the preliminary investigation, ordered an autopsy to be performed at the General Hospital of Corfu.
Passenger injured in fall on board
The Igoumenitsa Port Authority was informed in the evening of Nov 11, 2019, by the Captain of the 'Agia Theodora' about an accident involving a 67-year-old passenger. He was injured during the sailing ofrom the port of Corfu to the port of Igoumenitsa when it fell down the stairs. Once in port, an ambulance took him to the Igoumenitsa Health Center and then to the Filiates General Hospital of Thesprotia. a ore-trial is conducted by the Central Port Authority of Igoumenitsa.
