Ruptured cable injured two crew members
On Jan 9, 2018, the CROSS Etel was informed by the "Gascogne" that two crew members had been injured by the rupture of a cable 12 nautical miles off La Rochelle. Following a conference call between the Maritime Medical Consultation Center in Toulouse, the ship and the CROSS, the decision was taken to evacuate the most serious injured man by helicopter. A Dolphin helicopter of the Navy base in La Rochelle took off at 12:07 p.m. The victim, aged 35, was hoisted aboard the Dauphin at 1.02 p.m. and taken to the hospital center of La Rochelle where he arrived at 1:17 p.m. The "Gascogne" then headed to Verdon to drop off the second injured, 54 years old. He was taken care of by firefighters at 1.20 p.m. and transferred to the Lesparre hospital.
