Sinking freighter grounded in Chilean waters

Sat Apr 29 20:20:30 CEST 2017 Timsen

The "Aegir" ran aground on Apr 18, 2017, in position 45 44S 073 57W, in the Chacabuco Canal in the Aysén region en route to Punta Arenas with fish food. The hull was breached with ensuing water ingress. The ship seemed to have been intentionally ran aground to avoid sinking. The Chilean Navy was involved in the salvage and deployed the speedboat "Aysen" as well as the patrol boat "LPM 4411" and the vessel "Micalvi". The 12 crew members on board were in good health.
