Crew repatriated, still unpaid wages
11 Indian and Myanmar crew members of the "Aegean Princess" were finally repatriated home after 17 months in Ajman. The ITF worked with the UAE Federal Transport Authority (FTA) to resolve the dispute between the crewmembers and the ship operator. The “Agean Princess” was abandoned in the UAE after the ship owners and operators faced financial difficulties, leading them to abandon the crew without pay or the necessary documents to return home. However, the crew are still owed unpaid wages, totalling more than US $916,000. The crew were abandoned in the UAE in June, 2016: The ITF and the FTA have been working closely to end abandonment in UAE waters. The flag state of the vessel - Panama - also helped to resolve the issue.

Lacking even fresh water, crew members had to go up to 13 days at a time without a proper shower and clean themselves with sea water. Tin Ko Ko, the ship's captain who is from Myanmar, signed a letter which stressed that the health of the crew was deteriorating. The letter identified Brajendra Kumar Chakravarty of Dubai-based Vihaan Trading as the vessel's owner and complainrf that he has been making false promises to alleviate the plight of the crew.
