Detention in Otranto

The "Adriatik" was detained in Otranto due to deifiencies regarding the fire system, a failure to update nautical charts and poor engine room cleanliness on Apr 3, 2019, by the Coast Guard of Gallipoli. The arrest of the ship resulted from the potential danger for the safety of the ship and the environment. In particular, a malfunction of the on-board fire detection and extinction systems was found, the insufficient cleaning of the engine room, as well as the absence or non-updating of the nautical charts and publications for the navigation to the next port in Greece. These deficiencies led the inspectors to believe that the ship was under the minimum security conditions required by international law, recognizing the failure to meet the minimum criteria both for the safety of the crew and the ship as well as for the prevention of marine pollution. The ship will have to remedy all the deficiencies ascertained and only be released following a further control by the Coast Guard officers.
