Mats caused a lot of smoke
The fire rescue of Oostende was called to a fire aboard the "DA 68" in the afternoon of May 29, 2012, which was moored in the Vuurtorendock. During works aboard the ship mats in a store in the foreship had started to smolder. The crew alerted the emergency services. The fire rescue and the maritime police were on scene. The smoldering of the mats, which serve to absorb oil, caused a lot of smoke which emerged from the hold of the dredger. The fire rescue used heat cameras and had the situation under control short time later. The ship suffered only smoke damage. No one was injured.
