Medevac off Plettenberg Bay
On Sep 5, 2018, at 01.55 a.-m. the NSRI Plettenberg Bay duty crew was activated following a request for medical assistance from the "Active" reporting a crew member onboard suffering a suspected stroke (CVA – Cerebro Vascular Accident). The vessel was steaming towards Plettenberg Bay from the fishing grounds deep sea in calm sea conditions. The lifeboat "Ray Farnham" was launched. Upon its arrival on scene, eight miles off The Point, NSRI medics were transferred onto the vessel and medical treatment to the patient commenced in the cabin. The patient was secured onto a stretcher and transferred onto the lifeboat. He was transported to the sea rescue base where he was taken into the care of EMS paramedics and he has been transported to hospital by WC Government Health EMS ambulance in a stable condition.
