River cruise ship allided with bridge
On July 19, 2013, at 1.30 p.m. the "Amadeus Silver" enroute from Budapest to Amsterdam allided with the Kostheim lock on the Main, losing part of ist wheelhouse. There were no passengers on board as they had disembarkend in Frankfurt before. One of the Romanian helmsmen raised the wheelhouse again, after it had been already lowered to pass underneath a bridge across the lock, as he had forgotten some documents which would not have been accessible otherwise. Then he left the ship for formalities. The second helmsman from the Ukraine who navigated the ship had not noticed this, so that the wheelhouse crashed against the bridge. The roof was torn off and parts of the wheelhouse broke off. The ship was moored underneath the lock after the accident, where works started to construct a temporary wheelhouse so that the ship might proceed to a Yard for permanent repairs. The damage caused at the lock was about 20.000 Euro.
