Norstar settled
The "Norstar", which developed an 18° heel as its cargo shifted while being loaded is now in its correct position. The "Norstar" remained berthed at the Detached Mole. The cargo of dredged material inside the vessel had shifted causing the heel when more dredged material was added. Norstar close to capsizing
In the late evening of Nov 17, 2013,the "Norstar" was near capsizing whilst still moored to the harbour wall in Gibraltar harbour after being loaded with sludge which had been dredged in another part of the harbour. The vessel first listed to starboard and then listed to port as she now lays all whilst still tied to its moorings. The vessel , berthed at the Detached Mole, has been engaged to act as a holding barge for the dredged material arising from the dredge of the Ocean Village basin, an entertainment in Peñón with a marina and facilities such as casino, bars and shops. Having loaded some 4000 tonnes of dredged material, there was a shift of cargo affecting the stability of the vessel resulting in the vessel adopting a heel of around 18°. The crew of the vessel, apart from the master and chief engineer, have been evacuated. The owners of the vessel were arranging technical advice to rectify the situation and surveyors were expected to attend on Nov 18 morning.
