Ship runs aground off Surigao City; 357 saved
M/V Dapitan, owned by Cokaliong Shipping Lines, with 357 passengers onboard, ran aground at 5:45 am while it was about to dock at the Port of Surigao City, Lt. Cdr. Algier Ricafrente said. Coast Guard-Surigao helped transfer all passengers from the distressed vessel to Pier 2, of Surigao Port. Around 8:30 am, all passengers safely arrived at Pier 2, Ricafrente said. The Coast Guard advised the ship’s captain Artemio Pretila to file a marine protest and hire a tugboat to extract the grounded vessel.
