Kharg Terminal’s Western Dock Set for Rehabilitation

Thu Nov 30 12:15:31 CET 2017 arnekiel

Plans are in place to rehabilitate Kharg Oil Terminal in the Persian Gulf, Iran’s biggest crude oil loading and export facility, managing director of Iranian Oil Terminals Company said. Kharg terminal, located on a namesake island 35 kilometers off the Persian Gulf coast, has an eastern “T Dock” and a western dock, known as Azarpad, Shana reported. Pirouz Mousavi added that the western dock is planned for reconditioning in the present fiscal year that ends on March 21. “We have drawn up plans to maintain and improve Kharg’s crude export infrastructure and Azarpad dock is planned for reconditioning this year,” the official said, without providing details. Azarpad dock is designed to accommodate very large crude carriers with a capacity of 300,000 deadweight tonnage or more.

Kharg Terminal Expands Oil Loading Capacity

Thu Dec 29 08:01:21 CET 2016 arnekiel

Iranian Oil Terminals Company (IOTC) has completed the strategic project of renovation and overhaul of Kharg Oil Terminal in the Persian Gulf with the aim of boosting oil export capacity, managing director of the company said Monday. “The terminal’s crude oil loading capacity has increased to 7 million barrels per day. In other words, 10 very large crude carriers (VLCCs), with a storage capacity of 360,000 tons, can berth simultaneously without restrictions or technical hurdles,” Pirouz Mousavi was quoted as saying by Shana. Kharg Oil Terminal is located on Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf some 25 kilometers off the coast of Iran. According to officials, more than 90% of Iran’s crude exports are shipped from the key island. Underscoring the fact that the terminal’s facilities have been overhauled with the help of domestic firms, the official said IOTC operations conform to international standards. “The overhaul of marine loading arms in Kharg Island expedited oil loading rate by more than 100,000 barrels per hour,” Mousavi noted, adding that Asian and European VLCCs pick crude in the shortest time possible.

Kharg terminal ready to host world’s largest tankers

An IOTC official has said the largest tankers with a capacity of 360 thousand barrels can now berth at Kharg oil terminal. Head of Iran Oil Terminals Company’s (IOTC) Export Department Gholamhossein Gerami described the latest status of Kharg terminal’s harbor and facilities as Iran’s largest oil terminal for the post sanction era; “currently, about 94 per cent of Iranian crude oil is being exported to world markets from Kharg terminal.” Gerami noted that the oil produced in oil-rich regions is transferred to Kharg through five submarine pipelines asserting “the received oil is stored in 140-thousand to one-million-barrel oil storage tanks.” The official reminded that the storage tanks at Kharg terminal are capable of storing one or two types of light and heavy oil; “at the present time, the total oil storage capacity at Kharg terminal equals 28 million barrels.” He further noted the mooring of tankers at the terminal explaining “in the eastern harbor, a total of six tankers can berth simultaneously with a transfer rate of 670,500 barrels per hour. “All three types of light, heavy and burning oil can be loaded at the eastern harbor which can host tankers with a capacity of 275 thousand tons,” highlighted the official. http://www.hellenicshippingnews.com/kharg-terminal-ready-to-host-worlds-largest-tankers/
