Minefields around Israel's Red Sea port of Eilat cleared
An operation to clear minefields near Israel's Red Sea port of Eilat has been successfully completed. The Mine Clearing Authority (MCA) completed the clearance of 123 acres of minefields in the vicinity of Eilat. "The Eilat area is mine-free. The area was a 'ticking bomb' for decades and will soon be utilised by the state for the benefit of civilians," Marcel Aviv, deputy director of MCA, said.
Port of Eilat concession decision deferred
Israel Chemicals Ltd has emerged as the sole bidder for the concession to run the Israeli port of Eilat, Port Strategy reports. The government has therefore deferred the bidding process for one month, given that ICL has been accused of a conflict of interests.
