Maersk has recovered tanker which was stranded in Nakhodka due to the Russian war
After more than a year of negotiations, Maersk has recovered the 'RN Polaris' that had become stranded in the port of Nakhodka after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The ship left port in the Russian Far East end of April, 2023, after Maersk received permission to bring its own crew on board th product tanker. It arrived on Dohnghae on May 2, now renamed 'Marsk Tutu'. Before, only some of the crew were on board. Maersk ill not use the 6,843-ton capacity tanker for transport to and from Russia or the transport of Russian-related cargo. Maersk announced three weeks after the invasion on Feb 24, 2022, that it would end all activities in Russia and has now largely acted upon its word. The 'RN Polaris' was an exception to this, as were four tugboats from subsidiary Svitzer, which are still for sale.
Grounding near Vladivostok
The "RN Polaris" ran aground in the Slavyanka Bay, south of Vladivostok on Nov 16, 2017, around midnight, while leaving Slavyanka port, most probably after unmooring from the vessel she had bunkered. The tanker was refloated about 3-4 hours after the grounding. It resumed sailing, only to run into trouble again due to a mechanical failure. Finally, she managed to get underway at 10 p.m., bound for Nakhodka.
