Fishing vessel rescued 21 migrants
The crew of the 'Hennie' rescued 21 migrants from the Iraq in the English Channel near Dunkirk in the night of Dec 30, 2019. Among them were a toddler and a baby. The migrants had tried to travel from France to England with a small boat, but got into trouble near Dunkirk. The French Coastguard received an emergency signal from the boat around 9.15 p.m. Because the 'Hennie' was the closest ship in the area, the crew was asked to offer help. The Coastguard also sent a helicopter but it did not intervene due to the fear that the little boat would turn over. The cutter took the migrants on board before they were handed over to the Dunkirk rescue brigade which brought them back to the mainland. All migrants were slightly hypothermic.
