Live cattle transferred from stranded ship

Thu Mar 08 10:36:06 CET 2012 Timsen

3,000 live cattle have been removed from thew "Gracia del Mar" stranded in the Rea Sea, after 2,750 cattle died on board. The "Gracia Del Mar", carrying 5,600 animals from Brazil to Egypt, went into trouble after hitting bad weather. Subsequent damage to the ventilation and food systems caused the deaths of half the cattle on board. On arriving at Port Said, Egypt, 10 days ago, a veterinary committee inspected the vessel and found as many as 2750 cattle dead. After being refused permission to dock at Port Said because of the dead cattle, the ship sailed through the Suez Canal to the Red Sea. After being refused permission to dock at Djibouti, Sudan and Eritrea, the ship and its cargo of cows is still stranded in the Red SeaBy Mar 6 all live cattle have been transferred from the "Gracia Del Mar".

Cattle carrier stranded in the Red Sea

Tue Mar 06 10:39:02 CET 2012 Timsen

Thousands of cattle are feared to be dying aboard the "Gracia del Mar" stranded in the Red Sea, according to animal welfare campaigners. The "Gracia Del Mar" suffered an engine failure as it carried cattle between Brazil and Egypt which has led to a failure in the ventilation systemBy Mar 5, 2012, it has already resulted in the deaths of 2,750 cattle, Compassion in World Farming (CIWF) was reporting. The ship has attempted to dock at a number of ports, including its destination port in Egypt, but has been turned away due to the number of dead and dying cattle. It is currently stranded in the Red Sea area, near Eritrea.

Egypt urged to take in stranded cattle, thousands already dead

Sat Mar 03 11:26:40 CET 2012 arnekiel

A leading international animal rights organization has called on Egypt to allow a ship that has seen some 2,700 cattle die on board a live export ship from Brazil to dock in the country. Animals Australia’s Campaign Director, Lyn White, said in a statement to Bikyamasr.com that the ship is anchored at sea after being refused port in a number of countries, including Egypt, where the cattle were supposed to be offloaded. It’s understood that ventilation problems on the recently converted livestock vessel, the MV Gracia Del Mar, has caused the deaths of more than half of the animals on board since the ship left South America for Egypt a few weeks ago. The ship has been anchored in the Red Sea for over a week. More to read at: http://bikyamasr.com/60211/egypt-urged-to-take-in-stranded-cattle-thousands-already-dead/
