Response to oil spill concluded

Sun Oct 04 18:20:19 CEST 2020 Timsen

The unified command consisting of the Coast Guard, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and Gallagher Marine Systems, concluded the response to the 'YM MAndatge' on Oct 4 at the Global Container Terminal in Bayonne, New Jersey. The vessel was no longer leaking fuel oil. A dive survey was completed and no additional damage to the hull was found. The vessel departed the Global Container Terminal on Oct 3 to undergo repairs at a different facility in the Port of New York. The departure was approved following the cleaning of the vessel.

Ship is no longer leaking oil

Fri Oct 02 09:54:23 CEST 2020 Timsen

The 'YM Mandate' was no longer leaking fuel oil at the Port of New York and New Jersey. The crew had realized the vessel was leaking fuel oil after completing bunkering operations in Bayonne, and the master immediately reported the incident to the Cpast Guard and all concerned parties pursuant to its USCG-approved vessel response plan. An oil containment boom was deployed without delay and skimming vessels were engaged to remove any spilled oil. To prevent further leaking, the oil from the affected tank was being transferred to the vessel's other internal tanks. The Yang Ming headquarters mobilized an oil barge to the vessel to complete debunkering operations. Clean-up crews have successfully recovered much of the oil that has been released and were continuing to do so until regulatory authorities have been satisfied. The ship remained stationary at the Global MArine Terminal as of Oct 2.

Oil spill response continued

Thu Oct 01 09:22:43 CEST 2020 Timsen

A unified command consisting of the Coast Guard, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and Gallagher Marine Systems, continued in the response to the oil spill from the 'YM Mandate' at the Global Container Terminal in Bayonne, New Jersey on Sep 30. The vessel was no longer leaking fuel oil from the crack in the hull. Fuel oil was being pumped from the affected tank to a barge alongside the vessel. Oil containment booms and absorbent pads were deployed around the ship, and skimming vessels continued to remove oil from the water. Fuel oil will continue to be pumped from the affected tank until it is empty and repairs to the hull can be made.
