Future of abandoned ship remains uncertain

Mon Apr 01 12:03:40 CEST 2019 Timsen

The future of the "Yacu Kallpa", which was abandoned three years ago in the port of Tampico, remained uncertain, as well as its transformation into a school ship would cost one hundred million Pesos. The president of the United Front of Mariners in Tamaulipas, Guillermo Parra Avello, said that the proposal of his guild was that the vessel, declared by decree as property of the nation, was to be sold to a private company and its resources for the training of the graduates of the merchant schools of Tampico, Veracruz and Mazatlan. He considered that the vessel may be sold for use as a cargo ship or that it is scrapped. Among the reconstruction tasks would be the engine system which has deteriorated after three years without use. The ship, moored in dock 1 of Tampico, arrived on Jan 27, 2016, and was abandoned along with its crew of 18 and a shipment of 4.000 tons of wood by the company "Yacu Taski". Later it was secured by the Attorney General's Office and months later declared property of the Mexican Government, to be delivered to Fidena, the office responsible for the merchant schools of the country. Cargo ship abandoned by owners due to bankruptcy

Wed Feb 24 17:27:07 CET 2016 Timsen

The "Yacu Kallpa" seems to have been abandoned by the owner, the Peruvian company Yacu Taski. The vessel with a cargo of timber on borad has been docked in Tampico since Jan 26, 2016, with Peruvian Crew members on board. The vessel has been engaged in the timber trade for years, carrying timber from Amazon to Mexico. A part of the timber on board was found illegal, the rest was legal. The desperate crew asked the Mexican authorities to sell the legal part, and pay them their overdue salaries, totaling $120,000. The owner has other debts as well. The Tampico authorities said that they were supporting the crew, providing them with supplies. The Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured Mexican authorities, that the matter will be resolved as soon as the owner company files for bankruptcy.
