Fuel drained from grounded ship under challenging conditions
All fuel has been drained from the 'Xing Yuan' off Sakhalin, and the salvage team of the Sakhalin branch of the Maritime Rescue Service completed its operations. The ship no longer poses any threat to the environment. The further fate of the vessel will be determined by the shipowner. During the operation, the team of the Sakhalin branch of the Marine Rescue Service had to improvise a lot, come up with non-standard approaches to solving problems. From the coastline to the 'Xing Yuan', they set up a cable car, a hose line, a special heating system was made on vessel to prepare heavy fuel for pumping. The team got to the most inaccessible places and in agreement with the shipowner, technological holes were made, which made it possible to install special equipment and remove all oil products. After completion of work of the extraction of oil products from the ship to the shore, the team carried out the maximum cleaning of bulkheads, walls of fuel tanks, treating it with special reagents. Representatives of the shipowner conducted a thorough inspection of the 'Xing Yuan' and were recorded in the protocol.
Crew getting evacuated
Russian rescuers have started to evacuate the 12 crew members of the 'Xing Yuan' at the shore of the town of Kholmsk in Sakhalin on Dec 7. "The captain of the vessel had asked to evacuate the crew. Currently, the staff of the regional Emergencies Ministry and the Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing were working on the spot. Divers have already begun to examine the hull of the vessel. While there was no visible damage to the hull nor fuel leaks, the main engine has failed. Freighter grounded by storm
The 'Xing Yian' was pushed aground in the downtown of Kholmsk port at the height of the Primorskiy Boulevard in the afternoon of Dec 6, 2021, shortly after heaving anchor in order to sail further out to sea to ride out a storm raging in the region. The ship had arrived at Kholmsk anchorage on Dec 4 en route from Akashiri to the port of Kholmsk. The 12 Chinese crew members remained on board. No leak nor pollution was reported. The unloaded ship had 103 tons of bunker fuel in its tanks. Emergency Situations Ministry employees went to the scene. Representatives of the Emergency Ministry, fire services and the police went to the scene. The beach at the grounding site was barred off.
