Ferry slammed into charter boat en route to Lamma Island
The "Xin Chao" with 391 passengers and a crew of eight on board collided with a 15-m-charter boat of the oil company Sinopec with six people on board on Apr 29, 2016, at 9.26 a.m. off Green Island near Kennedy Town. The boat was severely damaged and started taking in water, when the ferry slammed into its port side, and all suffered non critical injured, two of them were brought to shore on board a marine police launch and further to hospital. Four people aboard the ferry received first aid. Three ambulances were deployed to Central and Western Piers. At 11.30 a.m. it turned out that five of the six injured needed hospital treatment and were taken to Queen Mary Hospital in Pok Fu Lam. The charter boat with three crew members and three passengers was en route to Lamma Island, while the ferry was en route from Hongkong Central to Cheung Chau, having departed from Cheng Chau at 08.40 a.m. and was enroute to Central, ETA 8.35 a.m. The ferry remained on scene while the Marine Department and Marine police continued their investigation. The triple decker was now expected to reach Central Pier at noon.
