Ferry sidelined due to lack of engine personnel
The WSF 'Tacoma' could not operate the Bainbridge-Seattle route as scheduled in the night of June 1, 2021, due to a lack of engine room personnel. The ferry 'Kaleetan' remained the only operating ship on that route in the evening hours. The 'Tacoma' was expected to sail again on June 2.
Ferry drydocked after hitting obstruction
The "Tacoma", 12684 gt (IMO: 9133977), was drydocked in Seattle on Aug 26, 2019, for emergency repairs to one of its propellers, leaving the Bremerton route with reduced capacity. The 90-vehicle "Sealth" has been put on the state's Bremerton run to replace the 188-vehicle "Walla Walla", which was, in turn, moved to run the Bainbridge route, where the "Tacoma" was operating. The "Tacoma" recently hit what was believed to have been a submerged log. Officials decided to go ahead with the repairs to try to get the vessel back in service before the Labor Day holiday.
Ferry had electric panel issue
The "Tacoma" went back into service on May 22, 2018, on the Bainbridge-Seattle ferry route on a late 3 p.m. sailing from Seattle. The Coast Guard gave Washington State Ferries clearance to put the vessel back in service after crews worked on the ferry which had been taken out of service after an issue with an electrical panel was discovered on May 21. The route was down to one vessel throughout the evening commute.
