Sinking trawler kept afloat by firefighters

Thu May 10 09:21:58 CEST 2012 Timsen

On May 9, 2012, the "Evann Emma" was sinking at the dock fishing port of Brest. The ship was moored alongside another trawler, the "Notre-Dame de Kérizinen II", both being registered in Morlaix. At 06:45 a.m., witnesses remarked that the trawler was sinking by the stern, while no one was aboard. Firefighters at once responded with 11 men, including divers, and pumping equipment. The divers checked the hull and found out that the water ingress was caused by a leaking seacock into the engine room. This was immediately closed, pumping operationsended at 11:00 a.m., and the ship was in stable condition. In the late afternoon it was towed to St. Guénolé Penmarc'h to undergo repairs.

Medevac off Penmarc'h

Wed Mar 14 09:22:03 CET 2012 Timsen

On Mar 13, 2012, around 4 p.m. the CROSS Etel was alerted because a man aboard the "Evann Emma" wihch was 70 miles east of Penmarc'h at that time, had fallen ill. After consultation with the Maritime Medical Consultation Center (MMCC) in Toulouse, the evacuation of the sailor was decided. The Civil Security helicopter Dragon 29 was alerted. But given the weather conditions with fog and low clouds, the helicopter could not hoist the man. CROSS Etel sent the lifeboat of the SNSM station St. Guénolé. About 6:30 p.m., an EC 225 helicopter of the Navy with a medical team of the Army Medical Service on board, was dispatched too. The trawler meanwhile had moved 30 miles to a region with more favorable weather. The EC 225 finally hoisted the man aboard and took him to the hospital Cavale Blanche.
