Cranes allided with bridge

Mon Feb 17 10:46:07 CET 2020 Timsen

The 'Wish Way' with two container gantry cranes on board allided with the Queen Juliana Bridge after its arrival at Willemstad, Curaçao, from Taicang in the morning of Feb 16, 2020. The cranes contacted the bridge which had a height of 56 meters, when the ship was passing underneath the structure, though the cranes height was 2/3 of the projected, specifically with the purpose of safe transit under the bridge. The bridge traffic was suspended for some time for damage surveys, but later re-opened, as the damages weren’t serious. The cranes, however, were badly damaged. The cranes were to be assembled in the port. Initially, two to three months were reserved for the operation, but due to the accident, the complete build-up of the cranes will take longer.
