Nestor aground in Limerick
The "Nestor" ran aground after leaving the docks at Limerick on Nov 24, 2013. The vessel was refloated by a tug boat at high tide on Nov 25 morning after spending the night stuck on mud between Limerick Port and Barringtons Pier. There was no environmental damage arising from the grounding which occurred shortly after the Nestor left port with a load of scrap metal at 10.30 p.m. The duty harbour master immediately mobilised the Shannon Foynes Port Company multi-purpose workboat, the "Multicat Shannon 1" to try re-float the vessel but this proved unsuccessful due to an ebb Tide. The tug "Celtic Rebel" was deployed from Foynes to assist and the Nestor was successfully refloated at approximately 11 a.m. and made her way downriver to Foynes. There was no apparent damage and no environmental impact, though the vessel was to be assessed by at Foynes by Port State Control. Pending clearance, it was expected to sail for Barreiro on Nov 26. Shannon Foynes Port Company fully examined the area where the ship ran aground to determine if any additional siltation has occurred and, if necessary, remedial action will be taken.
