Collision off Tecumseh
The "Whitefish Bay" was in collision with the tug "Bowditch" in position 42 23 15.4, 082 52 01.6W, four miles north northeast of Tecumseh, on Sep 10, 2019. The collision occurred as the "Bowditch" was overtaken by the bulk carrier. Both vessels continued their voyages after a brief stop.
Main engine failure off Thunder Bay
The "Whitefish Bay" was disabled due to a main engine failure off Thunder Bay, Ontario, in pos. 48 24 N 89 10 W, on May 12, 2018, at 4.45 p.m. The bulkcarrier anchored for repairs in Thunder Bay on May 13 and sailed the same day a 7.40 p.m. bound to Sault Ste. Marie, arriving there on May 14 at 1.40 p.m.
Bulkcarrier refloated
The "Whitefish Bay" was refloated on July 14 shortly before 8 a.m. A salvage plan was approved at about 8 p.m. Wednesday and was implemented at 6 a.m. The ship was carrying a load of coal product toward a port in New Brunswick when it experienced mechanical difficulties, losing power and coming to a halt on solid ground. The vessel was freed at 7:50 a.m. today without further incident. It was taken to Saint-Zotique, Quebec, for further inspection, before sailing on to Belle Dune.
