Barge disabled on the Elbe
On Oct 12, 2017, the "Vota", 1129 ts (EU-No.: 06002719), had to emergency anchor on the Elbe in Lauenburg. The ship had encountered engine trouble in 8 Beaufort wind, got off course and threatened to collided with other ships, drifting perpendicular to the fairway. It had a crew of two Polish nationalities. The water police timewise barred the Elbe fairway for safety reasons before the ship was towed to the Hitzler Yard in Lauenburg for repairs before proceeding to Hamburg. Master of barge died after fall into water
On Dec 16, 2014, the Polish master of the "Vota", aged 45, died after having fallen over board of his ship in Nordhafen in the Mittelland Canal. The body of the man was recovered during an extensive search at 1.35 p.m. He had been working on deck during unloading works in the morning at 5 a.m. with two colleagues, then left. The ship had arrived with coal in the afternoon of Dec 15. After the end of cargo operations at 6 a.m. the others could not find him, but first searched for him in vain. They found that the railing was broken at one spot. The Crew alerted the police only at 9 a.m. The fire rescue, which had been called only at 10 a.m., divers and a boat of the German Live Saving Society (DLRG) were on scene. Finally a sonar equipped boat of the water police detected the Body on the bottom of the Mittelland Canal. He was recovered and pronounced dead.
